Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: And 'Abd al-Malik ibn Shu'ayb ibn al-Layth narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me from my grandfather, saying: 'Aqil ibn Khalid narrated to me from Ibn Shihab from Salim from 'Abdullah,
that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to give (from the spoils of war) to small troops seat on expeditions something more than the due share of each fighter in a large force. And Khums (one-fifth of the total spoils) was to be reserved (for Allah and His Apostle) in all cases. أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قد كان ينفل بعض من يبعث من السرايا، لأنفسهم خاصة، سوى قسم عامة الجيش، والخمس في ذلك واجب كله
Sahih Muslim 1750c
.

The Shaykh : However, it is obligatory that this granting of a special share not be for the sake of favoring a relative or a rich person or the like, but rather its cause should be the gain, meaning the benefit obtained from this fighter who is granted the share.
