What is your advice to the brothers who accuse some Salafis of being Saruriyyah, spreading this in gatherings, and ordering people to leave them and isolate them?

The questioner : Well, O Shaykh, what is your advice to the Salafi brothers regarding our Salafi brothers who are being bothered or harmed by being called Saruriyyah? They are not Saruriyyah; perhaps they read a magazine in al-Sunnah, or read or heard some of the brothers on tapes, and then people talk about them in gatherings and majlis by saying they are Saruriyyah, so isolate them and leave them. What is your advice to those about whom this is said?

The Shaykh : First, I think something is understood from the answer to this question from what came before. As for Sarur as a person and his magazine, we have not looked into his methodology and creed to the extent that we looked into his political call. Therefore, it is not permissible for us to attribute to our brothers, who share with us in the call to the Book and the Sunnah, tawhid (the oneness of Allah), and fighting bid'ah (religious innovation)—this is what we know of Sarur. If it were the other way around, it would be closer to being acceptable if Sarur were attributed to these brothers, because we do not know anything of this knowledge that we know about these brothers from Sarur. So I advise our brothers who are hasty in attributing those who are with us in the Salafi call, like Salman and Safer, to a person whose true call we do not know. We hope that his call is the Salafi call, and indeed that it is the call of Salman and the call of Safer. Even though we hinted earlier that we might take issue with them on some minor matters in which two Companions cannot be free of any disagreement, this should not, first of all, be a cause of distancing, a cause of hatred, a cause of discord and separation. Finally, we are upon His saying—Blessed and Exalted is He—:
and do not be of those who associate others with Allah (32) [Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has.
[Ar-Rum 30:31-32]
, and we know the saying of Allah—Mighty and Majestic—:
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.
[Al-Hujurat 49:6]
. So to these brothers who accuse these Salafi brothers of being Saruriyyah, we say to them: produce your proof if you are truthful. First, they will not be able to present what Sarur's call is. So they are accusing those whose call is known of the call of a person whose call is not known from him. Thus, those texts I mentioned earlier from the Qur'an cover them. Then, finally, comes his saying—peace and blessings be upon him—:
It is enough for a man to prove himself a liar when he goes on narrating whatever he hears. كفى المرء كذبًا أن يحدِّثَ بكلِّ ما سَمِعَ
Riyad as-Salihin 1547
. Therefore, I remind all our Salafi brothers in all the lands of the world who are with us upon the principles and branches of the Salafi call, including that we do not transmit a report unless we verify it. So accusing these brothers of being Saruriyyah is a clear and obvious error, and it is a cause of splitting the ranks. This is not permissible. This is all I have.
