The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from the hadith of Abu Sufyan Sakhr ibn Harith about his meeting with Heraclius, the king of the Romans, the great one of the Romans, that it is: : The discussion of the first three phrases has already taken place. As for chastity, it is modesty, and modesty is of two types: modesty regarding the desire of the private parts, and modesty regarding the desire of the stomach. As for the first type of modesty, it is that a person should stay away from what Allah has forbidden, namely fornication and its means and paths, because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says: [Al-Isra 17:32] , and He made it obligatory for the fornicator to be flogged one hundred lashes and expelled from the city for a full year if he was not previously married. However, if he was married and had intercourse with his wife and then committed fornication, he is to be stoned to death with stones. All of this is to deter people from falling into this sin, because it corrupts morals, religions, and lineages, and it causes great diseases whose effects have become apparent in this time due to the prevalence of the sin of fornication, may Allah protect us from it.
This chastity from fornication led Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to forbid everything that leads to it and serves as a path to it. He forbade a woman to go out displaying her adornment, and He said:[Al-Ahzab 33:33] : So the best place for a woman is to remain in her house, and not to go out except when necessity or dire need requires it. She should go out as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded: *tafilah*: meaning without perfume and without displaying her adornment.
Likewise, he commanded that a woman should veil herself when she goes out, veiling herself from every man who is not one of her mahrams (relatives one may not marry). The Shari'ah-prescribed hijab is that a woman covers everything that looking at it serves as a path to sin, the most important of which is the face. Indeed, the face must be veiled from foreign men more than the head, the arm, or the foot must be veiled. There is no consideration for the statement of those who say that it is permissible to uncover the face, because this statement contains some contradiction. How is it permissible for a woman to uncover her face, while she is required by this man or this speaker to cover her feet? Which is a greater source of temptation and which is closer to fornication: a woman uncovering her face or a woman uncovering her feet? Every rational person understands what is being said. It is said that what is closer to fornication and temptation is uncovering the face.
Also included in this is that a woman should not go out wearing perfume. If she goes out wearing perfume, she has brought about a means of temptation through it and by it. People are tempted by her, and she is also tempted as she walks in the markets while wearing perfume. We ask Allah for well-being. It is not permissible for anyone to allow his family to do this ever. He must check on them, whether it is his wife, daughter, sister, mother, or otherwise. It is not permissible for anyone to allow his family to go out in a manner other than the Shari'ah-prescribed way.
As for the second type of chastity: it is chastity regarding the desire of the stomach, meaning regarding what is in the hands of people, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:273] : This means being modest in not asking people, such that a person does not ask anyone for anything, because asking is humiliation. The hand of the one who asks is the lower hand, and the hand of the one who gives is the upper hand. So it is not permissible to ask anyone except for what is absolutely necessary, such as if a person is in dire straits or has a need that is close to dire necessity. In that case, there is no harm in asking. However, without a pressing need or dire necessity, asking is forbidden. Hadiths have been reported warning against it, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed: , may Allah protect us from it. The bone appeared from it before the people in this great, witnessed position.
Then: : Until the whip of one of them was on his mount, and he would not say to anyone: "Hand me the whip," but rather he would dismount and take the whip. The person whom Allah the Exalted has honored with wealth and modesty does not know the magnitude of asking until he is humiliated before a created being. How can you extend your hand to a created being saying "Give me," when you are like him: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2516Hasan (Darussalam) .
As for the fourth: he said: Rather, it is the fifth: maintaining kinship ties. Maintaining kinship ties means maintaining what Allah has commanded to be maintained of relatives, from the closest to the closest, and the highest of them are the parents. Indeed, maintaining ties with the parents is dutifulness, both dutifulness and maintaining ties. Relatives have a share of maintaining ties according to their degree of closeness. Relatives have a share of maintaining ties according to their degree of closeness. So your brother is a stronger tie than your paternal uncle, and your paternal uncle is a stronger tie than your father's paternal uncle, and so on, from the closest to the closest. Maintaining kinship ties came in the Qur'an and the Sunnah without restriction. And whatever comes in the Qur'an and the Sunnah without restriction is understood according to custom. So what custom has established as maintaining ties is maintaining ties. This varies according to persons, circumstances, times, and places. For example: if your relative is wealthy, in good health, and you hear that he does not need anything, then maintaining ties with him, if you extend it, meaning for example: you visit him after a month or a month and a half or something similar, then this is maintaining ties in our custom. This is because people, praise be to Allah, have become independent of one another, and each one of them does not rely on the other. But if this man is a very close relative, like a father, mother, brother, or paternal uncle, then he needs more maintaining of ties. Likewise, if he is poor, he needs more maintaining of ties. Likewise, if he is sick, he needs more maintaining of ties, and so on.
The important point is that since maintaining kinship ties came in the Qur'an and the Sunnah without restriction, custom is followed in this matter. This varies according to the matters we mentioned: closeness, the person's condition, time, and place. So what custom has established as maintaining ties is maintaining ties, and what custom has established as severing ties is severing ties. Many texts have been reported regarding the virtue of maintaining kinship ties and the warning against severing them. And Allah grants success.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from the hadith of Abu Sufyan Sakhr ibn Harith about his meeting with Heraclius, the king of the Romans, the great one of the Romans, that it is:
He asked him what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command them? He said: He commands us to worship Allah alone, having no partner with Him, and to leave what our fathers used to say, and he commands us to pray, to be truthful, to be chaste, and to maintain kinship ties.
And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.
This chastity from fornication led Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to forbid everything that leads to it and serves as a path to it. He forbade a woman to go out displaying her adornment, and He said:
And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance
As for the second type of chastity: it is chastity regarding the desire of the stomach, meaning regarding what is in the hands of people, as Allah the Exalted said:
An ignorant [person] would think them self-sufficient because of their restraint
That a man will come on the Day of Resurrection with a piece of flesh on his face.
Then:
That the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not to ask people for anything.
When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid.
As for the fourth: he said:
And maintaining family ties
