Continuation of the explanation of the statement of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : That the forehead and the feet are in one place, in one place, and this is the utmost of what can be said regarding descent. For this reason, you say "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High", meaning that I purify my Lord, the Most High, who is above everything, from all lowness and descent. As for me, I am the one who descends, lowering my head and my noblest limbs to the place of the feet, the place where the feet tread. So you say "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High," repeating it as much as Allah wills, three times or more according to the situation. And you say "Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. O Allah, forgive me". And you say "The Purifier, the Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit". And you make much supplication with whatever you wish from matters of religion and matters of this world, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Glorify your Lord in Ruku' (bowing posture) and exert yourself in supplication in prostration. Thus your supplications are liable to be accepted.
Riyad as-Salihin 1427
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said
The nearest a servant come to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication often
Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani)
Asking for Paradise, seeking refuge from the Fire, asking for beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, firm faith, and so on. Asking for a beautiful house, a righteous wife, a righteous child, a car, whatever you wish of the good of religion and this world, because supplication is worship, even in matters of this world. Allah the Exalted said
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you."
[Ghafir 40:60]
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me
[Al-Baqarah 2:186]
In these difficult days, it is necessary that we lengthen our prostration and make much supplication that Allah should take hold of the hands of the oppressors and aggressors. We should persist and not be impatient for the response, because Allah is Wise. He may not answer the supplication the first time, or the second, or the third, in order for people to know the intensity of their need for Allah, so that they may increase in supplication. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is the wisest of judges; His wisdom is beyond our ability to comprehend, but it is upon us to do what we have been commanded, which is to make much supplication.
And the person prostrates after rising from bowing. He prostrates on his knees first, then his palms, then his forehead and nose. He does not prostrate on his hands first, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that, and he said
when one of you prostrates himself he must not kneel in the manner of camel
Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani)
The prostration of the camel is on the hands first, as is observed by everyone who has seen a camel prostrate; they find that it brings its hands forward. So do not bring the hands forward, for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade that, because likening the children of Adam to animals, especially in prayer, is a matter that is not desirable. Allah did not mention likening the children of Adam to animals except in a context of blame, except in a context of blame. Listen to the words of Allah the Exalted
(175) And recite to them, [O Muhammad], the news of him to whom we gave [knowledge of] Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators. (176) And if We had willed, we could have elevated him thereby, but he adhered [instead] to the earth and followed his own desire.
[Al-A'raf 7:175-176]
Yes,
like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants
[Al-A'raf 7:176]
And He the Exalted said
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not take it on is like that of a donkey who carries volumes [of books]. Wretched is the example of the people who deny the signs of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:5]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said
One who gets back his gift is like a dog which vomits and then swallows that vomit.
Sahih Muslim 1622g
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said
Whoever speaks on Friday while the Imam is giving the Khutbah (religious talk), he is like a donkey which carries books
Bulugh al-Maram 2:374

So you see that likening the children of Adam to animals was only in a context of blame. For this reason, the one who is praying is forbidden to prostrate like the prostration of the camel, bringing his hands forward. Rather, he brings his knees forward, unless there is an excuse, such as an old man for whom it is difficult to lower his knees first, in which case there is no blame. Or a sick person, or a person who has pain in his knees, or something similar to that.
And it is necessary that the prostration be on the seven limbs: the forehead and the nose, which follow it, and the two palms, which make three; the two knees, which make five; and the tips of the feet, the toes, which make seven. We were commanded to prostrate on them, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, and our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) commanded us, so we say "Hear and obey," and we prostrate on the seven limbs in all prostrations, as long as we are prostrating. It is not permissible to raise any of these limbs; they must remain as they are as long as we are prostrating.
And in the state of prostration, it is necessary, it is necessary for the person in the state of prostration to bring his feet together, not to spread them apart. He brings the two feet together. As for the two knees, nothing has been reported regarding them, so they remain as they are, in their natural state.
And as for the hands, they should be in line with the shoulders, meaning the shoulders, or they should be brought forward slightly so that he prostrates between them. So there are two descriptions for the palms. The palms have two descriptions:
The first description is that you bring them back slightly so that they are in line with the shoulders.
And the second description is that you bring them forward slightly so that they are in line with the forehead. All of this has been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And it is also necessary that you keep your upper arms away from your sides, and that you raise your back. Raise your back and keep your hands away from the shoulders, unless you are in the row and you fear that your neighbor will be harmed by the separation of the upper arms. Then do not harm your neighbor, because it is not permissible to do a recommended practice that harms your Muslim brother and disturbs him.
And I have seen some of the brothers who love to apply the Sunnah stretch out in prostration for a long distance, until you almost say that they are lying flat. And this is undoubtedly contrary to the Sunnah, and it is a religious innovation. Rather, the Sunnah is to raise your back and be elevated in it. And this description that I pointed out from some of the brothers, as it is contrary to the Sunnah, it also causes great fatigue to the body, because the support is on the forehead and the nose in this state. And you find that the person gets tired of lengthening the prostration. So in it is a contradiction of the Sunnah, and in it is tormenting the body. For this reason, it is necessary that if you see someone prostrating in this manner, meaning stretching out his back, that you guide him to the truth and say to him, "This is not the Sunnah."
And it is necessary in the state of prostration also that the person be humble before Allah (Mighty and Majestic), keeping in mind the elevation of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), because you will say "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High", meaning purifying Him by His elevation (Mighty and Majestic) from all lowness and descent.
And we believe that Allah the Exalted is High by His essence, above all His creations, as He the Exalted said
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
[Al-A'la 87:1]
And the affirmation of the elevation of Allah in the Qur'an and the Sunnah is too much to be counted. And when a person supplicates to his Lord, he does not raise his hands except to the sky, to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in the sky, above everything. And Allah the Exalted mentioned that He rose above His Throne in seven verses of the Qur'an, and the Throne is the highest of the creations, and Allah is above the Throne (Exalted and Majestic is He). And Allah grants success.
