The manner of prostration and what is said in it.

The Shaykh : Then he says takbir for prostration without raising his hands, based on the statement of Ibn 'Umar: Sunan an-Nasa'i 1088Sahih (Darussalam), he says takbir for prostration without raising his hands, and he lowers himself onto his knees, not onto his hands, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani), and when a camel kneels, it puts its hands forward, so the camel lowers itself onto its face.
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a person from lowering himself in prostration onto his hands, because if he does that, he kneels like a camel kneels.
This is what the hadith indicates, contrary to those who said: it indicates that you put your hands forward and do not lower yourself onto your knees, because when a camel kneels, it lowers itself onto its knees, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say: "So do not kneel on what the camel kneels on." If he had said "on what the camel kneels on," we would have said yes, then do not kneel on the knees, because the camel kneels on its knees, but he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani), so the prohibition is regarding the manner, not the limb on which a person prostrates and lowers himself.
And the matter in this is very clear for whoever reflects on it, so there is no need for us to tire ourselves and try to say: that the camel's knees are in its hands, and that it kneels on them, because we are in no need of this argument, since the prohibition is apparent in that it is a prohibition of the manner, not of the limb on which one prostrates.
And for this reason, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Zad al-Ma'ad: "His statement at the end of the hadith:Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani) is inverted upon the narrator, because it does not match the beginning of the hadith" And if it does not match the beginning of the hadith, then we take the original, not the example, because his statement: Sunan Abi Dawud 840Sahih (Al-Albani) this is by way of illustration, and when we want to return it to the original of the hadith, its correct form is: .
He lowers himself onto his knees, then his hands, then his forehead and nose.
And he prostrates on seven limbs, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) detailed them by saying: so a person prostrates on these limbs.
And he raises his forearms, so he does not place them on the ground, nor on his knees.
Rather, he raises them and separates his upper arms from his sides, and his belly from his thighs, so that the back is raised.
And he does not stretch out his back as some people do; you find him stretching out his back until you say: is he lying flat or prostrating? So prostration does not involve stretching out the back, rather the back is raised and elevated, until it is separated from the thighs, for this reason the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And this stretching that some people do in prostration, they think it is the Sunnah, but it is contrary to the Sunnah, and it involves severe hardship for the person, because if he stretches out, the weight of the body is borne by the forehead, and his neck is bent, and it is very difficult for him, and in any case, if this were the Sunnah, the person would have to bear it, but it is not the Sunnah.
And in the state of prostration, he says: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, just as he says in the state of bowing: Subhan Rabbi al-'Azim.
He says: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la three times,
Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbana wa bihamdika Allahumma ighfir li,
Subuh Quddus.
And he increases in supplication in prostration, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 2:179 meaning it is likely that it will be answered for you. Why was it likely to be answered for him?
Because he is closest to his Lord in this state, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani).
But note that if you are with the imam, what is prescribed for you is to follow the imam, do not stay in prostration to supplicate, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says:Sunan an-Nasa'i 794Sahih (Darussalam) So we were commanded to follow the imam and not to lag behind him.
Then he rises from prostration saying takbir.
And he sits between the two prostrations.
And how does he sit?
He sits in the iftirash position.
Iftirash: that he makes his left leg a bed for him.
but he did not do that when he prostrated.
وكان لا يفعل ذلك في السجودwhen one of you prostrates himself he must not kneel in the manner of camel
إذا سجد أحدكم فلا يبرك كما يبرك البعيرSo the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a person from lowering himself in prostration onto his hands, because if he does that, he kneels like a camel kneels.
This is what the hadith indicates, contrary to those who said: it indicates that you put your hands forward and do not lower yourself onto your knees, because when a camel kneels, it lowers itself onto its knees, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say: "So do not kneel on what the camel kneels on." If he had said "on what the camel kneels on," we would have said yes, then do not kneel on the knees, because the camel kneels on its knees, but he said:
he must not kneel in the manner of camel
فلا يبرك كما يبرك البعيرAnd the matter in this is very clear for whoever reflects on it, so there is no need for us to tire ourselves and try to say: that the camel's knees are in its hands, and that it kneels on them, because we are in no need of this argument, since the prohibition is apparent in that it is a prohibition of the manner, not of the limb on which one prostrates.
And for this reason, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said in Zad al-Ma'ad: "His statement at the end of the hadith:
but should put down his hands before his knees
وليضع يديه قبل ركبتيهbut should put down his hands before his knees
وليضع يديه قبل ركبتيهAnd let him place his knees before his hands
وليضع ركبتيه قبل يديهHe lowers himself onto his knees, then his hands, then his forehead and nose.
And he prostrates on seven limbs, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
We were commanded to prostrate on seven limbs, or the greatest
أمرنا أن نسجد على سبعة أعضاء أو أعظمOn the forehead, _ and he pointed with his hand to his nose to indicate that the nose is part of the forehead _ and the palms, and the knees, and the tips of the feet
على الجبهة، _ وأشار بيده إلى أنفه ليبين أن الأنف من الجبهة _ والكفين، والركبتين، وأطراف القدمينAnd he raises his forearms, so he does not place them on the ground, nor on his knees.
Rather, he raises them and separates his upper arms from his sides, and his belly from his thighs, so that the back is raised.
And he does not stretch out his back as some people do; you find him stretching out his back until you say: is he lying flat or prostrating? So prostration does not involve stretching out the back, rather the back is raised and elevated, until it is separated from the thighs, for this reason the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Be upright in prostration
اعتدلوا في السجودAnd in the state of prostration, he says: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, just as he says in the state of bowing: Subhan Rabbi al-'Azim.
He says: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la three times,
Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbana wa bihamdika Allahumma ighfir li,
Subuh Quddus.
And he increases in supplication in prostration, based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
"I have been forbidden to recite the Qur'an while bowing or prostrating; so while in the bowing (position) glorify (the Perfection of) the Rabb (Lord), and while in the prostrating (position) be earnest in supplication, for it is fitting that your supplications may be answered."
ألا وإني نهيت أن أقرأ القرآن راكعاً أو ساجداً، فأما الركوع فعظموا فيه الرب، وأما السجود فأكثروا فيه من الدعاء، فقمن أن يستجاب لكمBecause he is closest to his Lord in this state, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The nearest a servant come to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself
أقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجدBut note that if you are with the imam, what is prescribed for you is to follow the imam, do not stay in prostration to supplicate, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
It was narrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) fell from a horse onto his right side. They came to visit him and the time for prayer came. When the prayer was over he said: "The Imam is appointed to be followed. When he bows, then bow, when he stands up, then stand up, when he prostrates, then prostrate, and when he says Sami' Alldhu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him), then say, Rabbanri lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be the praise)."
إذا سجد فاسجدوا، وإذا ركع فاركعواThen he rises from prostration saying takbir.
And he sits between the two prostrations.
And how does he sit?
He sits in the iftirash position.
Iftirash: that he makes his left leg a bed for him.
