The Shaykh : The evidence for this is that the verb is in the jussive form So whenever you seek guidance from Allah with sincerity, dependence on Him, and persistence, Allah will guide you. But most of us are turning away from this. Most of us are performing worship, but out of habit and as people do, as if we are not in need of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) in seeking guidance. What is fitting for us is to ask Allah for guidance constantly. A person says in every prayer "My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, and guide me" Indeed, in every prayer he says this as a pillar [Al-Fatihah 1:6-7] But where are the conscious hearts? Most of us read this verse and it passes over us like a passing cloud, meaning a cloud that moves without rain or anything else. They do not pay attention to it. What is fitting for us is to pay attention and know that we are in need of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for guidance, whether it is scholarly guidance or practical guidance, meaning guidance of instruction and indication, or guidance of success. You must ask Allah for guidance constantly. "Ask Me for guidance and I will guide you." Perhaps this phrase includes the physical path as well as the spiritual path. The spiritual path is guidance to the religion of Allah. The physical path is when you are in a land where you have lost your way and you do not know whom to ask; ask Allah. For this reason, Allah said about Musa (peace be upon him) [Al-Qasas 28:22] meaning the straight path that leads to the objective without fatigue. And it has been experienced that if a person is lost in the desert, he should turn to Allah and say "My Lord, guide me to the straight path" or "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the straight path," because we are in need of Allah for both types of guidance: guidance for the physical path, just as we are in need of Allah for guidance to the spiritual path. We ask Allah to guide us all, among those He has guided.
