What is the ruling on the impurity of intoxicants? Is it a conceptual impurity or a physical impurity?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We have brought up the mention of intoxicants now, so we want to ask about the ruling on its impurity: is it a conceptual impurity or a physical impurity?

The Shaykh : No, its impurity is not a physical impurity.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And it is explained in the noble verse.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed,
from the work of Satan مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:90]
.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh :
indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone alters [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنْصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:90]
.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So this is conceptual, it is not material.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : In addition to that, it is established in some authentic hadiths: "That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when intoxicants were forbidden, poured out the contents of the wine skins in the streets of Madinah."

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : So would a rational person say that the streets are impure?! And women used to pass by with their train skirts on these streets?! It is not reasonable to say that. Add to that a very great hadith on this occasion: "That when the prohibition of intoxicants was revealed, and there were wine skins—apparently placed in a place for selling them—he ordered that a knife be brought to him, and he took it and struck the wine skins with it. They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, there is benefit in them!' Meaning, not in the skins themselves, but pour out the wine. He answered"—here is the point—:
Yes أجل
, whereas if the wine were impure, what would it be? Something that can be benefited from? He said:
Yes. أجل
And he only did that as retribution for the sanctities of Allah, or as he said (peace be upon him). So the wine is not impure, it is forbidden like many of the forbidden things.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, and upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah. Who is it? Who is at the door? Who is at the door? And upon you be peace and the mercy and blessings of Allah... Please, please come in.
The student: Peace be upon you.
Another student: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah. Please.

The Shaykh: Peace be upon you.
The student : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.

The Shaykh : Oh Allah, peace be upon you.
The student: And upon you peace.

The Shaykh : Oh Allah, how are you? I hope you are well, if Allah wills.

The questioner : Praise be to Allah.
