Is it valid for a man to cite the hadith (Whoever says with the imam until... ) as evidence that the follower should follow the imam in the tarawih prayer if he exceeds eleven rak'ahs?

The questioner: All right, indeed, a hadith comes to mind that those who see the addition from some of the scholars of Najd or such cite as evidence. They say, they cite the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Indeed, whoever stands (praying) with the Imam until he finished, then it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night. مَن قام مع الإمام حتى ينصرفَ كُتِبَ له قيامُ ليلة كاملة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 806Sahih (Darussalam)
or as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said.

The Shaykh: The answer, may Allah bless you, is clear from the previous answer, which is:

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: The intended meaning of "imam" here is the imam who follows the Messenger (peace be upon him), not any imam. This is the answer.
