The Ruling on the Order of Dhikr After Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it obligatory to arrange the dhikr (after prayer), or is it sufficient to do whatever is easy for one?

Answer:
One should arrange what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged, and what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not arrange is not obligatory. These are the dhikr after the taslim. The best is as Ibn al-Zubayr said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he said the taslim, would say it after seeking forgiveness from Allah: "O Allah, You are Peace, and from Peace comes all things." Then he would turn to the people and say: "There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no power and no strength except by Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the favor, His is the grace, and His is the good reputation. There is no god but Allah, we are sincere to Him in religion, even if the disbelievers dislike it. O Allah, there is no one who can prevent what You have given, and there is no one who can give what You have withheld, and no possessor of wealth can benefit You with his wealth." This is established from the hadith of Ibn al-Zubayr and the hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah.
And the tasbih comes after this: tasbih thirty-three times, tahmid thirty-three times, and takbir thirty-three times. The completion of the hundred is "There is no god but Allah," or the takbir is thirty-four times. He says all of this after the taslim, but after the dhikr, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.
Q: Is the tasbih and tahmid after every prayer?
The Shaykh: I mean after the taslim, as in the narration. Al-Mughirah used to say it after the taslim.
Q: And the supplication: "O Allah, help me to remember You"?
The Shaykh: This is before the taslim. The place of the supplication is before the taslim.
Q: But the "dubur" (end)?
The Shaykh: The "dubur" is the last thing. The "dubur" of the prayer is its end, before he says the taslim. This is its "dubur." And what follows it is also called "dubur," but the true "dubur" is its end, like the "dubur" of an animal, a part of it, its end before he says the taslim.
Q: The hadith of Ibn Abbas in Muslim: "We used to know the end of the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) by the takbir"?
The Shaykh: This takbir is: "Allah is the Greatest" thirty-three or thirty-four times.
Q: Is it a specific takbir?
The Shaykh: No, this is the takbir that is with the tasbih and tahmid. Their voices gathered and rose, and the people heard them.
Q: Do their voices gather only in the takbir?
The Shaykh: Their voices gather in the takbir and others, and in the tasbih, but in the takbir; because it is the conclusion. The takbir is the conclusion, and the voices rise at it: "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar."
