Ruling on entering the mosque for one who has eaten onions and one who smokes
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the reason for the dislike of entering the mosque for one who has eaten garlic or onions? And what is the difference, in the view of Islam, between the smell of garlic and onions and the smell of smoke? Since the praying smokers frequent the mosque for prayer and their smell is foul from smoking, yet they do not care about it. I ask for clarification of the difference between the dislike of entering the mosque for the smoker and the one who eats garlic and onions. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:, and there are many hadiths on this matter. It is also established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he ordered the removal from the mosque of anyone found with the smell of garlic or onions. The operative cause of this is that the worshippers, the reciters, and the angels are all harmed by the foul smell. And whatever has a foul smell, such as smoke, is included with garlic and onions and the like in being prevented from the mosque until they use something to remove the foul smell.
And included with this is one who has a harmful smell from his armpits or the like, generalizing the operative cause that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) specified. May Allah guide everyone to what He loves and is pleased with.

Whoever eats garlic or onions, let him keep away from our mosque and sit in his house, for the angels are harmed by what the sons of Adam are harmed by.
