Ruling on performing voluntary prayers for the traveler and the pilgrim in Mina

Question:
We are currently shortening the prayer. Is it permissible for us to also perform the voluntary prayers and the recommended practices? And are we allowed to stand in night prayer? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.

Answer:
The recommended practice is not to perform voluntary prayers along with the obligatory ones for the traveler and the pilgrim in Mina, where one prays the midday prayer as two units and does not pray anything with them, and likewise the afternoon prayer, and likewise the sunset prayer, and likewise the night prayer. As for the dawn prayer, one prays its recommended practice with it, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray its recommended practice with it in travel and residence. Likewise, the late-night voluntary prayer and the odd-numbered night prayer, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform them in travel and residence. And likewise the recommended practice of the morning prayer, if one prays the morning prayer, there is nothing wrong with it.
