The Shaykh : Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned: "The Chapter on the Prohibition of Sitting on a Grave": Because the grave contains a respected Muslim person, and sitting on it is a humiliation to him. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, as narrated by Abu Hurayrah:
It is better that one of you should sit on live coals which burn his clothing and come in contact with his skin than that he should sit on a grave لَأن يجلس أحدكم على جمرة فتحرق ثيابه فتخلص إلى جسده خير له من أن يجلس على القبر
Mishkat al-Masabih 1699
, and this indicates the prohibition, and that it is not permissible for a person to sit on the grave of a Muslim. If he wants to sit, let him sit behind the grave, placing the grave behind his back, or to his right, or to his left. As for sitting on it, this is forbidden.
