Encouraging preachers to hold lectures and lessons
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We ask Your Eminence to encourage preachers and students of knowledge to hold lessons and lectures in all parts of the country; for it has been observed that there is neglect in some areas, a scarcity of preachers, and a laziness among students of knowledge who refrain from lessons and lectures. This leads to the spread of ignorance, a lack of knowledge of the Sunnah, and the spread of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and bid'ah (religious innovation). May Allah preserve you.
A: There is no doubt that it is obligatory (wajib) for scholars, wherever they are, to spread the truth, spread the Sunnah, and teach people, and that they must not be lazy about it. Indeed, it is obligatory (wajib) for the people of knowledge to spread the truth through lessons in the mosques around them, even if they are not the imams leading prayer there.
In the Friday sermons, the imams of the congregational mosques must take care of the Friday sermon and seek out the needs of the people. Likewise, in lectures and seminars, those who conduct them must seek out the needs of the people, clarify for them matters of their religion that may be hidden from them, and what is required of them toward their brothers, neighbors, and others, such as enjoining good and forbidding evil, calling to Allah, and teaching the ignorant with gentleness and wisdom.
When the scholars remain silent and do not advise or guide the people, the ignorant speak, and they go astray and lead others astray. It has come in the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: It was narrated by Imam al-Bukhari in his Sahih. So we ask Allah for safety from all evil for us and for our Muslim brothers.
And from what we have mentioned, it becomes clear that it is obligatory for the people of knowledge, wherever they are—in the villages and cities, among the tribes, in these lands, and in every place—to teach the people and guide them by what Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said. And whatever is difficult for them in that, they must refer to the Book and the Sunnah and refer to the words of the people of knowledge.
So the scholar learns until he dies, and he learns to know what is difficult for him, and he refers to the words of the people of knowledge with evidence (dalil) so that he may issue fatwas (scholarly legal rulings) for the people and teach them with insight, and so that he may call to Allah with insight.
So a person is in need of knowledge until he dies, even if he was among the Companions . Every person is in need of seeking knowledge and understanding the religion so that he may know and learn. He should refer to the Noble Qur'an and reflect upon it, refer to the authentic hadiths and their explanations, and refer to the words of the people of knowledge until he benefits and what was difficult for him becomes clear. He should teach the people from what Allah has taught him, whether he is in his house, in the school, in the institute, in the university, in the mosques around him, in the car, in the airplane, in any place, or in the cemetery if he is present at the burial and the grave has not been filled in by them sitting and waiting. He should remind them of Allah, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do.
The point is that the scholar seizes the opportunity in every suitable place and suitable gathering and does not waste the opportunity. Rather, he seizes it to remind and teach with good words, a good style, verification, and caution against speaking about Allah without knowledge. And Allah is the guarantor of success.

Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by plucking it from the hearts of men, but He takes away knowledge by the death of the scholars, until when no scholar remains, the people take ignorant leaders as their heads, and they are asked for rulings, so they issue rulings without knowledge, and they go astray and lead others astray.
