The Ruling on Spying on Some Employees for the Benefit of the Work

Q: The brother who used the pseudonym "The Seeker of Truth" from Riyadh says in his question: I work under the management of one of the important officials in the state, and this official sometimes asks me to inquire about some people who wish to work under his management or who are actually working in the department, regarding their morals, their righteousness, and their competence. Is it permissible for me to perform this task? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is permissible for you to perform this task, provided you verify the truth, pay attention to the matter, and do not lie or deceive; because this work, with truthfulness and sincerity, is considered a form of cooperation in righteousness and piety and a form of advice. May Allah guide them all.
