The ruling on praying inside the Ka'bah and on its roof
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A question from: A. S. from Jordan. He says in his letter: Is it permissible to pray inside the Ka'bah or on its roof? And if the answer is yes, in which direction should the worshiper face? May Allah reward you.
A: Praying in the Ka'bah is permissible, indeed it is prescribed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed in the Ka'bah when he conquered Makkah; he entered it and prayed two rak'ahs, and he said the takbir and made du'a in its corners, peace and blessings be upon him. He placed three cubits between himself and its western wall when he prayed, peace and blessings be upon him. And he said to A'ishah during the Farewell Pilgrimage when she wanted to pray in the Ka'bah:Sunan an-Nasa'i 2911Sahih (Darussalam).
However, some scholars held that one does not pray the obligatory prayer in it, but rather it is prayed outside of it; because it is the qiblah, so the obligatory prayer is prayed outside of it. As for the voluntary prayer, there is no harm; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed the voluntary prayer in it and did not pray the obligatory prayer in it.
The correct view is: if he prays the obligatory prayer in it, it suffices him and is valid. But the better and more preferable is: that the obligatory prayer be outside the Ka'bah, to avoid the disagreement and to follow the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for he led the people in the obligatory prayer outside the Ka'bah. And the Ka'bah should be in front of the worshiper in all four directions, in both the voluntary and the obligatory prayer. And he should pray the obligatory prayer with the people, and not pray alone.

Enter the Hijr for it is part of the House.
