The ruling on reciting aloud for one who prays alone
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: From Abu Abdullah - Riyadh, what is the ruling on reciting aloud for a person praying alone? And is it permissible for him to recite quietly?
A: Reciting aloud in the prayers where recitation is loud, such as Fajr and the first and second rak'ahs of Maghrib and 'Isha', is a recommended practice (sunnah) for the imam and for the person praying alone. If one recites quietly, there is no blame on him, but he has left the recommended practice. If the person praying alone feels that reciting quietly is more reverent for him, there is nothing wrong with it; because it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that in the night prayer he would sometimes recite aloud and sometimes quietly, as Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) mentioned that about him (peace and blessings be upon him). As for the imam, the recommended practice for him is to recite aloud always, following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and because of the benefit to the congregation in hearing the words of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), whether the prayer is obligatory or voluntary. And success is from Allah.
