Cutting the Rawatib When the Prayer is Called
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A man entered the mosque to perform the Sunnah of the Zuhr prayer, but when he said the opening Takbir, the Iqamah was called. Should the man cut off his prayer or complete it? I ask for clarification of this issue.
A: If the Iqamah is called and some of the congregation are praying the greeting of the mosque or the Rawatib, it is prescribed for them to cut it off and prepare for the obligatory prayer; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 421Sahih (Darussalam) narrated by Muslim.
Some scholars held the view that he should complete it briefly; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Muhammad:33], and they applied the aforementioned hadith to the one who began the prayer after the Iqamah.
The correct view is the first one; because the aforementioned hadith covers both cases, and because other hadiths were reported indicating generality, and because he (peace and blessings be upon him) said this statement when he saw a man praying while the Mu'adhdhin was calling the Iqamah.
As for the noble verse, it is general and the hadith is specific, and the specific takes precedence over the general and does not contradict it, as is known from the principles of jurisprudence.
However, if the Iqamah is called and he has already bowed in the second bowing, there is no harm in completing it; because the prayer has ended and less than a Rak'ah remains of it. And success is from Allah.
