Among the innovations that occur in the month of Rajab
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
السوال: Some people single out the month of Rajab for specific acts of worship, such as the prayer of al-Ragha'ib and keeping awake on the 27th night of it. Is there any basis for this in the Shari'ah? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: Singling out Rajab for the prayer of al-Ragha'ib, or celebrating the 27th night of it, which they claim is the night of the Isra' and Mi'raj, all of this is a religious innovation (bid'ah) that is not permissible, and it has no basis in the Shari'ah. The precise scholars among the people of knowledge have pointed this out, and we have written about it more than once, clarifying to people that the prayer of al-Ragha'ib is a religious innovation (bid'ah). It is what some people do on the first Friday night of Rajab. Likewise, celebrating the 27th night on the belief that it is the night of the Isra' and Mi'raj, all of this is a religious innovation (bid'ah) with no basis in the Shari'ah. The exact night of the Isra' and Mi'raj is not known, and even if it were known, it would not be permissible to celebrate it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not celebrate it, nor did his righteous successors or the rest of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). If it had been a recommended practice (sunnah), they would have preceded us in doing it.
All good lies in following them and proceeding upon their methodology, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: : [At-Tawbah: 100], and it is authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih Muslim 1718a It is agreed upon as authentic.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b Muslim narrated it in his Sahih.
And the meaning of is: it is rejected by its doer.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in his sermons:Sahih Muslim 867a Muslim also narrated it.
Therefore, it is obligatory for all Muslims to follow the Sunnah, adhere to it, and advise one another to it, and to beware of all religious innovations, acting upon the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He): : [Al-Ma'idah: 2], and His saying (Exalted is He): Indeed, man is in loss, Except those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience. [Al-Asr: 1-3], and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): , it was said: For whom, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Sahih Muslim 55a It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
As for the 'Umrah, there is nothing wrong with it in Rajab, because it is established in the two Sahihs from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed 'Umrah in Rajab. And the Salaf used to perform 'Umrah in Rajab, as al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in his book (al-Lata'if) regarding 'Umar, his son, and 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with them), and he transmitted from Ibn Sirin that the Salaf used to do that. And success is from Allah.

And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.
