The ruling on praying behind one who makes errors in the Qur'an
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: An imam who makes errors in the Qur'an and sometimes adds to or subtracts from the letters of the Qur'anic verses; what is the ruling on praying behind him?
A: If his errors do not change the meaning, there is no harm in praying behind him, such as making "Rabb" (Lord) accusative or nominative in[Al-Fatihah 1:2], and similarly making accusative or nominative, and the like. However, if his errors change the meaning, one should not pray behind him if he does not benefit from being taught and corrected, such as reading with a kasrah on the kaf, or reading with a kasrah or dammah on the taa. If he accepts the teaching and corrects his recitation by being shown the right way, his prayer and recitation are valid. It is prescribed in all circumstances for a Muslim to teach his brother, both in prayer and outside of it; because a Muslim is the brother of a Muslim, he guides him if he makes a mistake, teaches him if he is ignorant, and shows him the right way if the Qur'an becomes difficult for him.
