Discussion regarding the expiation for committing a prohibited act.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
We have previously mentioned that the prohibited acts regarding the expiation are divided into four categories: those for which there is no expiation, those whose expiation is severe, those whose expiation is the expiation of harm, and those whose expiation is a penalty. So, what is the expiation of harm?

The questioner : The expiation of harm was shaving the hair.

The Shaykh : But what is it?

The questioner : We said: feeding sixty poor people.

The Shaykh : Sixty poor people.

The questioner : Six poor people. We said: feeding six poor people, or fasting for three days.

The Shaykh : For each poor person?

The questioner : Half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg).

The Shaykh : Why is it called the expiation of harm?

The questioner : Because the harm was removed from him.

The Shaykh : Why is it called the expiation of harm?

The questioner : When it was first legislated, it was a means of removing the harm.
Another questioner: In accordance with the text of the Qur'an.

The Shaykh : Due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice فمن كان منكم مريضاً أو به أذى من رأسه ففدية من صيام أو صدقة أو نسك
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
And as for the severe expiation, it is the expiation for intercourse during Hajj before the first exit from the state of ihram, and it is a camel. And as for the penalty, it is for hunting. We mentioned that hunting is divided into two categories: that which has an equivalent and that which does not have an equivalent. For that which does not have an equivalent, one is given the choice between slaughtering the equivalent or appraising it in dirhams to buy food with, and feeding from it one mudd (a quarter of a sa') of barley for each poor person, or half a sa' of something else, or fasting for one day for each poor person fed. And as for that which does not have an equivalent, one is given the choice between two things: feeding and fasting.
Now, the author (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. We will take tonight's lesson. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The one who is prevented from completing Hajj? Tamattu' (combining 'Umrah and Hajj with a break between them)?
