Ruling on Visiting a Sick Disbeliever

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If the sick person is a disbeliever, and he is one of his relatives, should he visit him?

Answer:
Even if he is a disbeliever, he should visit him. The Prophet visited Abu Talib while he was a disbeliever. He had a Jewish servant in Madinah who fell ill, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited him and said to him:
Bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allahاشهد ألا إله إلا الله وأني رسول الله
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 10:368
. His father was present with him, so his father said, "Obey Abu al-Qasim." The servant then said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet left his presence saying:
Praise be to Allah Who has saved him through me from Hellالحمد لله الذي أنقذه بي من النار
Sunan Abi Dawud 3095Sahih (Al-Albani)
. He was a servant before the command to expel the disbelievers from the Arabian Peninsula, so he visited him while he was a Jew, and he visited Abu Talib while he was a polytheist. This is especially so if good is hoped for in the visit, such as calling him to Allah, perhaps Allah will save him through that.
