Is it always required to face the qiblah in supplication?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In other than this hadith—when he finished burying him, he faced the qiblah with his hands raised—is it prescribed to face the qiblah?

Answer:
The original ruling is that facing the qiblah is better when making supplication, but it is permissible to make supplication without facing the qiblah, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made supplication for rain facing east, (peace and blessings be upon him), facing a direction other than the qiblah, on Friday when he sought rain.
Likewise, the hadith of Abdullah ibn Zayd: the first thing the people did in the sermon was that he faced them, then he turned toward the qiblah to make supplication, with his hands raised for seeking rain, (peace and blessings be upon him). When he went out to the prayer ground, he combined these two: he faced them first, admonished them, and reminded them, then he turned toward the qiblah and made supplication, then he descended, (peace and blessings be upon him).
And in the hadith of Anas: that he faced the people: “O Allah, send us rain, O Allah, send us rain, O Allah, send us rain,” and he did not turn toward the qiblah when he sought rain for them after the Friday prayer. All his supplication was while facing the people, and the qiblah was behind his back.
And this indicates that this is permissible, and this is permissible. If he wishes, he faces the qiblah and makes supplication, and if he wishes, he faces the people and makes supplication. And so it is in other supplications in his home, or in any place. If he makes supplication facing the qiblah, it is better, and if he makes supplication toward another direction, there is no harm in that. The matter is broad; it is not of the same nature as prayer.
Q: Supplication for the deceased after burial?
A: This depends on this hadith of Ibn Mas'ud.
Q: Without raising the hands, is there a report?
A: What came before this is that supplication for the deceased after his burial, from any direction, whether facing the qiblah or not facing the qiblah, since everyone stood over it and made supplication: this one from one direction, and this one from another direction, and this one from another direction. The matter is broad in this.
