The Meaning of the Abrogating and the Abrogated in the Texts of the Shari'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Ashraf Muhammad, says in this question: I heard some of my brothers speaking about the abrogating and the abrogated in the Qur'an, so what is the abrogating and what is the abrogated? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The abrogating is the final ruling, and the abrogated is the initial ruling. An example of the abrogated is that people used to face the Sacred Mosque in prayer until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) migrated, and sixteen or seventeen months had passed. Then Allah revealed the abrogating, which is His saying—(Exalted and Majestic is He):
We have certainly seen the turning of your face, [O Muhammad], toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you [believers] are, turn your faces toward itقَدْ نَرَى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ
[al-Baqarah:144]. This is the abrogating of what they were doing, which was facing the Sacred Mosque; they were commanded to face the Ka'bah wherever they were. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah bless you.
