Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I hope you will clarify for me:
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers marriedوَلا تَنكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ
[Surat al-Nisa: 22]?

Answer:
Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says:
And do not marry those [women] whom your fathers married, except what has already occurredوَلا تَنكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[al-Nisa:22] They were lenient in this matter during the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, so Allahprohibited it. A man is not permitted to marry his father's wife, nor his grandfather's divorced wife, or the wife of his grandfather who died, whether the grandfather is on the mother's side or the father's side. Allah has forbidden the marriage of fathers' wives absolutely, whether on the father's side or the mother's side, whether they are divorced or their husbands have died. They are prohibited for the sons of their husbands, and for the sons of their sons, however far down the line, yes, whether by milk kinship or blood kinship, both by blood and by milk.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
