The ruling on one who sleeps past the witr until the Fajr adhan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: If I get up late one day after the Fajr adhan, and I have not prayed the witr, do I pray the sunnah or the witr?
Answer:
The witr has been missed. Pray during the day whatever Allah makes easy for you. If you usually pray witr with three rak'ahs, pray two units of taslim during the day. If your habit is five rak'ahs, pray three units of taslim, which is six rak'ahs, and so on. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he missed his witr at night due to illness or sleep, would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day, as Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported. His witr was usually eleven rak'ahs. So when he missed that witr, whether due to illness or sleep, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day, meaning he added one rak'ah, making it six units of taslim. This is the sunnah for one who misses his witr at night: he prays it during the day. And praise be to Allah. If you get up after the dawn has appeared, you pray the sunnah of Fajr, then the Fajr prayer. And praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
