The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20756 )
Q2: If a person did not pray Witr before the dawn, should he pray Witr before the Fajr prayer if the imam is delayed? And how should he pray it, one unit or two? May Allah reward you with good?
A2:The time for the witr prayer is from after completing the 'Isha' prayer and its regular voluntary prayers until the second dawn. It is better to perform it in the last part of the night for whoever is able to do so and does not fear missing it due to sleep or the like. If the dawn breaks and he has not prayed what he was accustomed to of night prayer, or if he missed the witr, he should perform what he missed of the night prayer in the duha time and make the witr even by adding one rak'ah. If it was his habit to pray five rak'ahs at night, he should pray six, saying the closing salam after every two rak'ahs. If it was his habit to pray eleven rak'ahs, he should pray twelve, saying the closing salam after every two rak'ahs, and so on. This is because it is established from
the duha time, and he makes the witr even by adding one rak'ah. If it was his habit to pray five rak'ahs at night, he should pray six, saying the closing salam after every two rak'ahs. If it was his habit to pray eleven rak'ahs, he should pray twelve, saying the closing salam after every two rak'ahs, and so on. This is because it is established fromA'ishah(may Allah be pleased with her) who said:. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
