Question:
Please explain to us the saying of the Truth, (Blessed and Exalted is He): I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oathsلا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللَّهُ بِاللَّغْوِ فِي أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا عَقَّدْتُمُ الأَيْمَانَ
[Al-Ma'idah:89], the verse. And must the expiation for an oath be performed in a specific order?

Answer:
The noble verse was interpreted by the scholars, and they explained its meaning. It is the saying of the Exalted in Surat al-Ma'idah:
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oathsلا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللَّهُ بِاللَّغْوِ فِي أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا عَقَّدْتُمُ الأَيْمَانَ
[al-Ma'idah:89], and in Surat al-Baqarah:
but He imposes blame upon you for what your hearts have earnedوَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ
[al-Baqarah:225]. Whatever the heart binds itself to, and whatever the heart acquires, the servant is held accountable for it among oaths. Its expiation is as Allah explained in Surat al-Ma'idah:
the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slaveإِِطْعَامُ عَشَرَةِ مَسَاكِينَ مِنْ أَوْسَطِ مَا تُطْعِمُونَ أَهْلِيكُمْْ أَوْ كِسْوَتُهُمْ أَوْ تَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ
[al-Ma'idah:89]. This is a choice with no specific order; if he wishes, he expiates it by feeding, if he wishes, by clothing, and if he wishes, by freeing a slave. He is given the choice because it came with (or) , and "or" indicates choice. If he is unable to do the three, he must fast for three days. If he is unable to feed, clothe, or free a slave, he must fast for three days. It is better for them to be consecutive. This applies if he intended the oath, aimed at it, and acquired it.
As for if it passes over his tongue without intention, and without aiming at the oath, then he owes nothing for it. It is considered idle talk, or an oath where he believes he is truthful, believing that he is truthful. He says, "By Allah! I did not do such-and-such," or "By Allah! I will certainly do such-and-such," or "By Allah! I did do such-and-such." He says, "By Allah! I did do such-and-such," believing that he did it, thinking that he did it, and then it becomes clear that he did not do it; then he owes nothing. Or, "By Allah! I saw so-and-so," believing that he saw him, and then it becomes clear that it was someone else; then he owes nothing, according to the correct opinion. This is part of idle oaths because he did not intend to lie, but rather he swore intending to be truthful, believing that he was truthful. So it falls under the category of idle oaths. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
