The ruling on following a person who is praying alone
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If you enter the mosque, or any place, and find one person praying, is it permissible for me to enter with him so that he becomes the imam, even though he did not intend to lead anyone, but his intention was to pray alone? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is no blame on you if you enter and you have not prayed, and you find a person praying, for him to be your imam, and for you to pray with him so that you both obtain the reward of congregation, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — when he saw a man enter after the prayer had ended:Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:694.
The point is the reward of congregation; and because he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray at night, so Ibn Abbas stood in a row to his left, but he moved him to his right and prayed with him; this indicates that seeking congregation in voluntary and obligatory prayers is a desired matter. The late-night prayer is the obligatory prayer for which you came and missed the congregation, and you find a person praying, or a group praying with him, and you are to the right of the imam. If there is only one person, you are to his right. Yes.
