The Ruling on Temporary Marriage

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A resident of Baghdad, Iraq, named Adel Jassim, sent a question asking: It is said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade temporary marriage in his famous sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage. Is this true?

Answer:
Yes, temporary marriage was forbidden during the Farewell Pilgrimage. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage with women, but Allah has forbidden it (now) until the Day of Resurrectionإني كنت أذنت في الاستمتاع من النساء، وإن الله قد حرم ذلك إلى يوم القيامة
Sahih Muslim 1406d
. Therefore, temporary marriage is forbidden. Some scholars have stated that he forbade it twice: during the Farewell Pilgrimage and in the Year of the Conquest. However, there is a point of consideration regarding this. In any case, it has become forbidden and abrogated. Whether it was forbidden twice or once, it has become forbidden and prohibited. Temporary marriage is not permissible. Rather, marriage must be based on desire, not on temporary pleasure, according to the consensus of the people of the Sunnah and the community.
