Question:
After this, a message was received for the program from Makkah al-Mukarramah, sent by the listener Hasan Abu Ali. The brother Hasan has several issues he is asking about, and he says: If the imam begins reciting the surah after al-Fatihah, is it permissible for me to recite al-Fatihah while he is reciting whatever is easy of the Qur'an?

Answer:
Yes, you may recite al-Fatihah, but if it is easy for you to recite it while he is silent, that is better. So if he does not pause, or if it is not easy for you to recite it, then recite it and then listen; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Perhaps you recite behind your imam?لعلكم تقرؤون خلف إمامكم؟
Sunan Abi Dawud 823Da'if (Al-Albani)
We said: Yes. He said:
Do not do so except when it is Fatihat al-Kitab, for he who does not recite it is not credited with having prayed.لا تفعلوا إلا بفاتحة الكتاب فإنه لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بها
Sunan Abi Dawud 823Da'if (Al-Albani)
So if you are able to recite it while he is silent, do so; otherwise, recite it and then listen.
But as for the follower who forgets it, or is ignorant of its ruling, or arrives while the imam is bowing, the rak'ah is sufficient for him, praise be to Allah; because it is easier for the follower, unlike the imam and the one praying alone, for whom it is a pillar.
As for the follower, the majority hold that it is a recommended practice for the follower, a dispensation, meaning that it is obligatory for the follower, but if he forgets it or is ignorant of it, it is dropped from him; or if he arrives while the imam is bowing and he was not able to recite it, the rak'ah is sufficient for him, based on the hadith of Abu Bakrah, who arrived while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was bowing, so he bowed without joining the row, then entered the row, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:
May Allah increase your eagerness! But do not do it again.زادك الله حرصًا ولا تعد
Sunan Abi Dawud 683Sahih (Al-Albani)
Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
