Changing a name if it is not in accordance with the Shari'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person adopts a name and then discovers that it is not a name in accordance with the Shari'ah, what is your guidance?

Answer:
It is obligatory to change a name, such as one who named himself 'Abd al-Husayn or 'Abd al-Nabi or 'Abd al-Ka'bah, and then learned that servitude is not permissible for anyone other than Allah, and that no one is to be worshipped other than Allah; rather, worship is for Allah , such as: 'Abd Allah, 'Abd al-Rahman, 'Abd al-Malik.
He must change the name, such as changing 'Abd al-Nabi or 'Abd al-Ka'bah to 'Abd Allah, 'Abd al-Rahman, Muhammad, Ahmad, or Saleh, or similar names that are in accordance with the Shari'ah. This is what is obligatory. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) changed many names.
As for if the name is that of the father, if the father is alive, he should be informed so that he can change his name. But if the father is dead, there is no need to change it, and it remains as it is. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not change the name of 'Abd al-Muttalib, nor did he change the names of others who were named after the worship of other than Allah, such as 'Abd Manaf, because they were known by those names.
