Changing the name of the town
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 16505 )
Q 1: I live in a village named ( Deir al-Janadil ), and the word (Deir) is Christian. It is obvious to the listener that they would assume it is Christian, knowing that Christians do not exceed 10%. Do the people of the village sin by keeping this name?
A 1 : It is not obligatory to change the name of the town called (Deir al-Janadil); because it is a previous name by which it was known. However, naming something with such a name initially is not permissible. The rule is: it is permissible to continue what is not permissible to initiate. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
