Ruling on the traveler shortening the prayer behind a resident imam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The brother M. M. S. says in his question: A traveling man entered the mosque while the imam was praying the 'Isha' prayer and had already sat for the final tashahhud. He entered with him intending to pray the prayer shortened because he is a traveler. Is his action valid? If it is not valid, what must he do now? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good. And what if the imam was in the first tashahhud? Is it sufficient for him to pray the remaining two rak'ahs with him with the intention of shortening the 'Isha' prayer?

Answer:
It is obligatory for the traveler, if he prays behind a resident, to complete the prayer with four rak'ahs, even if he catches only part of the prayer. This is how the Sunnah came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). May Allah guide them all.
