Celebrating the Prophet's birthday is not proof of love

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message was sent to the program by the listener Ramadan 'Abd al-'Azim, who says in his message:
First question: In all our countries, in Egypt, they celebrate the birthday of our master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). What is the ruling on that?
Answer: This issue has occurred in many of the Muslim countries. Many Muslims celebrate the Prophet's birthday, and despite its presence in many countries, it is a religious innovation (bid'ah). Innovations do not become recommended practices (sunnah) because of the large number of people who do them, whether in the Maghreb, the Mashriq, Egypt, or elsewhere. This celebration of birthdays is among the innovations introduced by the Shi'ah, and some of the Sunnis followed them in it. Some historians mentioned that the first to introduce it were the Fatimids, the Banu 'Ubayd ibn al-Qadah, the well-known ones who ruled Egypt and the Maghreb in the fourth and fifth centuries. They were the first to introduce it in the fourth century. They introduced birthdays for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), for al-Hasan and al-Husayn, for Fatimah, and for their ruler. Then the celebration of birthdays occurred after them. So it is an innovation without doubt; because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is the teacher and guide, and his Companions are the best of people after him, after the prophets. He conveyed the clear message, and he did not celebrate his birthday (peace and blessings be upon him), nor did he guide to it, nor did his Companions celebrate it, and they are the best of people and the most beloved to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor did those who followed them in excellence from the three preferred generations. So it is known that it is an innovation. And it is a means to extremism and associating partners with Allah (shirk). It is a means to extremism regarding the prophets and the righteous, for they may exalt them with extremism and praises that contain shirk with Allah, major shirk, such as describing them as knowing the unseen, or that they are called upon besides Allah, or that aid is sought from them, or the like of that. So they fall into this celebration into types of shirk without realizing it, or perhaps they realize it.
So it is obligatory to leave that, and the celebrations of the birthday are not proof of the love of the celebrators for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and their following of him. Rather, the proof and evidence for that is their following of what he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. This is the proof of love for Allah and His Messenger. The sincere love, as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sinsقُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ
[Al-Imran: 31]. So whoever loves Allah and His Messenger, let him follow the truth, by performing the obligations of Allah and leaving the prohibitions of Allah, and standing by the limits of Allah, and hastening to the things that please Allah, and being cautious of everything that angers Allah . This is the proof, and this is the evidence, and this is what the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them in excellence were upon. As for the celebrations of the birthdays of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani, or of al-Badawi, or of so-and-so and so-and-so, it is all an innovation and all of it is what is wrong (munkar) and must be left; because the good is in following the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and following his Companions, and the righteous predecessors (Salaf), and the evil is in innovation and invention and contradicting what the righteous predecessors were upon. This is what is obligatory, and this is what we issue rulings on, and this is the truth upon which the predecessors of the nation were. There is no consideration for those who contradicted that and interpreted it, for the religion was destroyed in many countries, and its matter became confused for the people because of interpretation and leniency, and displaying innovations and killing off the sunnahs. And there is no power and no strength except with Allah, and Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
