The Friday preacher’s concern with the community’s issues

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence, if it is observed that the Friday sermon has not fulfilled its function as it was known in the past, and the sermons have turned into various things that have no connection to the people’s real needs?
Answer: They are advised. Those in charge of the preachers, the scholars and those responsible for the Friday prayer, direct them to deliver sermons that benefit the community in terms of their admonition, reminding them, and alerting them to the reprehensible matters that may occur in the society in which they live. This is how they alert them.
The presenter: But what if they are compelled to deliver a specific type of sermon?
The Shaykh: They must address the issue, even with those who compel them. They must address the issue because, in most cases, it does not lack admonition, even if they are compelled. It does not lack admonition that achieves, if Allah wills, sufficiency. However, what is required is that they seek out the needs of the community and the evils that occur in it, so that they alert the community to the errors that may occur in it, so that it straightens out and becomes aware, thereby fulfilling what Allah has made obligatory and leaving what Allah has forbidden.
If the preachers have been assigned specific topics, they should study them with the responsible parties and propose what they consider to be the best and most beneficial. In most cases, what is assigned to them is sufficient, because it does not lack admonition and reminding, whether about Paradise, the Fire, the Day of Resurrection, or the righteous deeds that please Allah, such as maintaining the prayers, paying the obligatory alms, fasting Ramadan, and the like, through which reminding is achieved. However, what is required of the preachers beyond that is to combine this with other matters that the community needs. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
