What is the number of the rawatib and nafilah prayers for the obligatory prayers?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener (A. M. A.), a resident of Makkah al-Mukarramah, asks several questions, one of which is: Please clarify for me the number of nafilah prayers before and after each obligatory prayer?

Answer:
Yes, the nafilah prayers that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) maintained along with the obligatory prayers are twelve rak'ahs. These are called the rawatib, and they are also called the nafilah prayers that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) maintained. They are: four before the midday prayer, two before the midday prayer, two before the midday prayer after the sun has passed its zenith, two after the midday prayer, two after the sunset prayer, two after the night prayer, and two before the dawn prayer. These are the rawatib that the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) maintained: four before the midday prayer, two after the midday prayer, two after the sunset prayer, two after the night prayer, and two before the dawn prayer. It is better to pray them at home, and if one prays them in the mosque, there is no blame on him. These are called the rawatib, and they are a confirmed sunnah (recommended practice) for those who are not traveling.
As for when traveling, it is better to leave them off. When traveling, it is better to leave them off except for the sunnah of the dawn prayer and the witr; for the witr... in travel, and he prays the sunnah of the dawn prayer. As for the sunnah of the midday, sunset, and night prayers, it is better to leave them off. It is recommended to pray four before the afternoon prayer, but they are not rawatib. Before the afternoon prayer, it is recommended to pray four, and before the sunset prayer two, and before the night prayer two, but they are not rawatib. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
May Allah mercy on a person who prays four Rak'at before the 'Asr prayer.رحم الله امرأً صلى أربعًا قبل العصر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:263
And he said:
"Pray before Maghrib, pray before Maghrib" then he said at the third time, "Whoever wishes (to)"صلوا قبل المغرب، صلوا قبل المغرب، ثم قال في الثالثة: لمن شاء
Bulugh al-Maram 2:264
And he said:
Between the two adhans there is a prayer, between the two adhans there is prayerبين كل أذانين صلاة، بين كل أذانين صلاة
Sunan Abi Dawud 1283Sahih (Al-Albani)
And this includes the sunset and night prayers.
So it is recommended to pray two rak'ahs before the sunset prayer after the sun has set, and two rak'ahs before the night prayer after the adhan. Praying four before the afternoon prayer is recommended, but they are not rawatib. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not make them rawatib, but they are recommended because of his command (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
