The ruling on fasting three days from the beginning, middle, and end of the month

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
She says: We have people who fast ten days of the month, for example: they fast three days at the beginning of the month, three days in the middle of the month, and three days at the end of the month. They say that it is recommended to fast these days. A woman from Jeddah adheres to this practice. What is your opinion? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
We do not know of any basis for this, but fasting is prescribed. As for his adhering to three, then three, then three, we do not know of any basis for that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abdullah ibn Amr and others:
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was informed that I had taken an oath to fast daily and to pray (every night) all the night throughout my life (so Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to me and asked whether it was correct): I replied, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you! I said so." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "You can not do that. So, fast for few days and give it up for few days, offer Salat (prayer) and sleep. Fast three days a month as the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times and that will be equal to one year of fasting." The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for two days." I replied, "I can do better than that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for a day and that is the fasting of Prophet David and that is the best fasting." I said, "I have the power to fast better (more) than that." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is no better fasting than that."صم من الشهر ثلاثة أيام
Sahih al-Bukhari 1976
is sufficient. And he advised Abu Hurayrah and Abu al-Darda to fast three days of every month.
So the best is to suffice with three days. If he wishes to be more active and fast more, there is nothing wrong with that. Or he fasts on Mondays and Thursdays, or he fasts five days of every month, or something like that, there is nothing wrong with it. But the best is to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, or three days of every month. As for his continuing with three, then three, then three, believing that it is a recommended practice, I do not know of any basis for this. But if he fasts fifteen days and breaks the fast for fifteen days, meaning: the text; there is nothing wrong with it. For the best of fasting is to fast one day and break the fast for one day. So if he fasts half the month and breaks the fast for half of it, or he fasts one day and breaks the fast for one day, or he fasts one day and breaks the fast for two days, all of this is permissible. The Prophet (may Allah send prayers and peace upon him) guided to this. May Allah send prayers upon him. Yes.
