Question:
The questioner in this message mentions that she is a committed girl who has a cousin's daughter living in the same house. This girl commits many wrongs that do not please Allah and do not please me. She says: "She talks to a man on the phone, delays the prayer, and also says: I advised her and spoke with her, but the advice and reminders did not benefit her. She says: And among this phone contact, one of the people promised her marriage, like the other stories we hear. Is it permissible for me to expose her and reveal her to her family? Or should I cover for her? Please guide us, O Shaykh."
Answer:
It is obligatory to advise her and cover for her. Advise her to turn to what is good. As for phone conversations, if they lead to unlawful sexual intercourse, they are not permissible. However, if the phone conversation is for her to ask about the status of the man who is proposing to her, and he asks about her status for the sake of the proposal, there is no harm in that. As for a phone conversation where it is feared that they will agree upon a sinful act, that is not permissible.
She must advise her and warn her against this reprehensible matter. There is no objection to threatening her and frightening her that her matter will be reported to her family, perhaps she will respond, and perhaps she will be afraid, by way of deterrence. Covering for her is required due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 2544Sahih (Darussalam) So she should be covered for and warned, and it is obligatory for her to refrain from this thing, unless the man is a suitor, or wants to propose, and they speak only about the topic of the proposal; in that case, there is no harm in it.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
