Rulings on Shortening and Combining Prayers for the Traveler

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the Syrian Arab Republic, this is a message sent by the listener Hammad al-Suwaydi. The brother Hammad says: Is it permissible, if I am on a long journey, to combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The traveler may combine the Dhuhr and Asr, and the Maghrib and Isha. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to combine prayers while traveling. If he was staying in one place, he would shorten the prayer but not combine it. When he was on the move, he would combine (peace and blessings be upon him). If he set out before the sun set, he would delay the Maghrib to be prayed with the Isha, performing a combination by delay. If he set out after the sun had set, he would bring the Isha forward to be prayed with the Maghrib, performing a combination by advancement. If he set out before the midday time, he would delay the Dhuhr to be prayed with the Asr, a combination by delay. If he set out after the midday time, he would bring the Asr forward to be prayed with the Dhuhr, a combination by advancement. However, if he is stationary and resting, it is better not to combine. For this reason, in Mina during the Farewell Pilgrimage, on the days of Mina, he did not combine (peace and blessings be upon him); he shortened the prayers but did not combine them because he was resting. He prayed the Dhuhr alone, the Asr alone, the Maghrib alone, and the Isha alone. This is what is best. On some of his days in Tabuk, while he was stationary, he combined, which indicates that it is permissible. It shows that if one combines while traveling and is stationary, there is no harm, especially in cases of need, such as a shortage of water, severe cold, or the like. If he prays each prayer in its own time, that is better if he is stationary. But if he is on the move, it is better to combine the Dhuhr and Asr, and the Maghrib and Isha, following the example of the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes...
