What is better for the groom to pay: the mahr or the cost of furnishing the house?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, Sa'id Muhammad al-Masri, says in this question:
In our village, when a young man marries a girl or begins the process of marrying her, he is given a choice between two options, which are:
First: He pays the bride's father a mahr, and in this case, the bride's father furnishes the house prepared for the marriage.
Second: The young man furnishes the house, and in this case, he does not pay the bride's father any money.
Knowing that the husband is the one who builds the house, which is better, O honorable Shaykh, from the perspective of the Shari'ah: paying the mahr or furnishing the house?

Answer:
The matter in this is broad, and praise be to Allah. Allah says:
that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your propertyأَنْ تَبْتَغُوا بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ
[Surat al-Nisa: 24]. So if the husband, the woman, and her father agree on something regarding the furnishing of the house, or the handing over of money, or money and furnishing, or otherwise, there is no harm; the matter is up to them.
The important thing is that he spends money that the woman is satisfied with, and there is no harm, whether it is little or much. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man:
Look (for something), even if it is only an iron ringالتمس ولو خاتمًا من حديد
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3359Sahih (Darussalam)
And Allah says:
that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your propertyأَنْ تَبْتَغُوا بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ
[Surat al-Nisa: 24]. And "money" encompasses both little and much. So if they agree on something regarding the furnishing of the house, or the handing over of money, or money and furnishing, or any other form of reconciliation between them, the matter is broad in this, and praise be to Allah. Yes.

The presenter: Praise be to Allah, may Allah reward you with good.
