The ruling on one who says to his wife: If you are forced into marriage, then I bear no responsibility

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says, O Shaykh: I said to my wife, "If you are forced into marriage, then I bear no responsibility," or words to that effect. I do not remember exactly what I said because so much time has passed. Does this statement constitute giving her the choice? And if it does, does anything become obligatory upon me?

Answer:
Nothing becomes obligatory; because its meaning is: I am not the one responsible for forcing you. So, nothing becomes obligatory upon her. However, the matter must be examined. If she was forced and did not consent, she has the option to annul the marriage, according to the correct opinion.
As for if she was forced but then consented, the correct view is that the marriage is valid, and praise be to Allah. Yes, if her father forced her and then she entered the marriage willingly, praise be to Allah, the marriage is valid. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh.
