Guidance on the Book Tafsir al-Jalalayn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Finally, our sister asks some questions about the Noble Qur'an and its interpretation. First, she asks about Tafsir al-Jalalayn?

Answer:
It is a beneficial tafsir, though it contains some errors regarding the attributes and in some of the interpretation, but it is a beneficial tafsir. There is no book but that it contains some errors, except the Book of Allah . The books of people contain some errors, but some have few and others have many. Tafsir al-Jalalayn contains some errors. If it is facilitated for a follower of the Sunnah to study it so that he knows the speech of the people of the Sunnah and the community, so that he can point out the errors, that is good. And if something is difficult for the student, he should ask the scholars. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh! Do you advise any of the students of knowledge to follow up on this interpretation and point out the errors in it, as well as the correct statement?

The Shaykh: Yes, I have an intention to do this, and I have written some of it. I intend to follow up on this—if Allah wills—and write what is possible in that matter. Perhaps I will also advise some of the scholars, because they are more free than I am; they may do this faster than I do. So I hope to advise some of the scholars to do this—if Allah wills. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. The students of the College of Usul al-Din, O Shaykh, often take up Qur'anic studies to obtain a master's or doctoral degree. Do you advise any of them to take up this book?

The Shaykh: It may be possible, if Allah wills.

The presenter: To be an academic thesis.

The Shaykh: I advise this, yes. I advise this because there is a great benefit in it, yes.

The presenter: May Allah bless you, may Allah reward you with good.
