Question:
What is the advice for a beginner student of knowledge regarding books of tafsir?

Answer:
Answer: He should start with the concise works. The tafsir of al-Baghawi is concise and reliable; he is a great imam, and his tafsir is a great, concise work. The tafsir of Ibn Kathir is also suitable, following al-Baghawi; it is simpler and more comprehensive. The tafsir of Ibn Jarir is the mother of tafsirs if one proceeds with it step by step. Currently, there is a book on tafsir that is easy, excellent, and comprehensive in the meanings of most of the verses; it is the tafsir of Shaykh al-Sa'di. This is very good, may Allah have mercy on him, and it is beneficial, but it is not sufficient. It can be taken as a starting point.
