Question:
A letter reached the program from one of the listening brothers, who indicated his name with the letters (H), (Q), and (A) from Ha'il. Our brother has a very long question, the summary of which is: that he used to lead people in prayer, and he has a good and beautiful voice, and he also used to deliberately improve his voice. Out of fear of showing off, he refrained from leading the prayer and had other people lead the people, even though they do not read or write. How do you advise him? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
We advise him to lead the people in prayer, and to improve his voice, and praise be to Allah, and to strive against himself to avoid showing off; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Abi Dawud 1469Sahih (Al-Albani) meaning: he beautifies his voice with it. And one night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by Abu Musa al-Ash'ari while he was reciting, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) listened to him. When morning came, Abu Musa came to him, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him: Sunan ad-Darimi 23:191 meaning: a voice from the voices of them. So Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If I had known that you were listening, I would have polished it for you thoroughly," meaning: I would have beautified it for you.
So improving the voice for the benefit of the Muslims so that they listen, pay attention, and reflect is a required matter, and this is not from showing off; this is from excellence in worship. And the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said: Beautifying the voice benefits the community and benefits the listeners, and you do it to benefit them, not so that they praise you. Leave showing off, but do it so that they benefit and profit. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
