The Ruling on Kohl, Perfume, and Washing the Head with Soap

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, we move on to the questions, via a message sent by one of the female listeners. She says: Your sister in Allah (E. Y. T.) says: What is the ruling on kohl, perfume, and washing the head with soap?
May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Perfume is prescribed; it is prescribed for a person to use perfume. Using perfume is part of the Sunnah of the messengers. One should take care to use perfume, incense, and various types of pleasant perfumes, such as agarwood oil, rose oil, amber, and the like, for both men and women. However, if a woman wants to go out to the market, she should not perfume herself, or if she is going to the mosque, she should not perfume herself, but rather in her home with her husband.
And as for what?

The presenter: Perhaps she means kohl, may Allah grant you mercy, Shaykh.

The Shaykh: As for kohl, there is a distinction: If she means by kohl the substance that contains intoxicants, it is not permissible. If she means applying kohl, this is recommended. Applying kohl to the eyes with antimony is good... Likewise, there is nothing wrong with soap; washing the head or the body with soap is fine for both men and women, except if a person is in the state of ihram, in which case he must not touch perfume while in ihram until he exits the state of ihram. He must not perfume himself until he exits the state of ihram. As for soap, if it is strong-smelling for one in ihram, it is better to leave it out; otherwise, it does no harm. It is not perfume, but if he leaves it out because it has the scent of perfume, that is good. If he uses it, there is no blame on him. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. And is this the same whether it is in Ramadan or not?

Answer: In Ramadan and in other times, yes.

The presenter: May Allah bless you.
