The Ruling on the Urine and Dung of Animals Whose Meat Is Eaten

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received for the program from one of the listening brothers. He says: We inform you that we work in the desert as camel herders, and we inform you that we doubt our purity; because at times we perform wudu' without shoes—may Allah reward you—and we step on camel droppings, and sometimes we pray on them. We have heard from some people that anything the sun touches becomes pure, so tell us the correct ruling. May Allah guide you, and may He reward us with good for you.

Answer:
Stepping on camel urine and camel dung does not harm; because their dung is pure, and their urine is pure, and so it is with sheep and cattle, and the rest of animals whose meat is eaten. So what affects your feet from that does not harm you. It is not befitting for you to doubt without evidence, for the original state is purity. So what affects the feet from what you do not know the original state of, which is purity, until you know the impurity. If you know the impurity, then wash the foot from what affected it. And praise be to Allah. And beware of waswasah (whispers) and bad suspicion.
As for the sun, it does not purify the ground. Rather, it is necessary to pour water on the urine if there is urine in it; water is poured on it. It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that a Bedouin entered the mosque—the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) mosque—and urinated in it, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a bucket of water be poured on his urine. And when the Companions were about to rebuke him, he said:
Do not stop himلا تزرموه
Then when he finished, he called him and taught him. He said—(peace and blessings be upon him)—he said:
Indeed, these mosques are not suitable for any of this urine and filthإن هذه المساجد لا يصلح فيها شيء من هذا البول، والقذر
Because they are built for the remembrance of Allah, prayer, and recitation of the Qur'an. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him so that he would not return to such a thing, and he ordered the Companions to restrain themselves from him; lest he defile himself if they stood up against him, lest he defile himself, or defile many places of the mosque; until he finished his urine. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him and guided him, then he ordered a bucket of water to be poured on his urine, and he did not say the sun purifies it.
So the conclusion is: that urine, and other impurities, the sun is not sufficient for purification. Rather, if it is urine, water is poured on it. And if it is excrement, dung, or impure droppings, like donkey droppings, or mule droppings; it is moved, it is taken and moved to a place far from the mosque.
And if it has moisture, water is poured on the place of the moisture. And if it is dry, it is moved, and it does not harm the mosque. As for if it is wet, meaning: wet excrement, or dung from donkey or mule dung, wet; it is moved, and kept away from the mosque, and something of water is poured on its wet place, in abundance, to be a purification for it. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
