Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received by the program from one of the female listeners, saying: (S. A. A.) Our sister has more than one question; in one of them she says:
The Prophet (ﷺ) cursed women who imitate men and men who imitate women.لعن رسول الله ﷺ المتشبهات من النساء بالرجال، والمتشبهين من الرجال بالنساء
Sunan Abi Dawud 4097Sahih (Al-Albani)
How does this imitation take place? And is this curse a banishment from the mercy of Allah, even if the woman prays and performs good deeds? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This falls under the category of warning; the curse is a warning and a deterrent. A man may be saved from the punishment by good deeds or by sincere repentance, and likewise a woman may be saved from the punishment by sincere repentance and good deeds, but the intent of the curse is to warn.
It is not permissible for a man to imitate the disbelievers, nor to imitate women, and the same applies to a woman; she is not allowed to imitate men, nor to imitate the disbelievers, neither in dress, nor in speech, nor in walking. He is not allowed to imitate a woman in her dress, her words, or her walk, nor to imitate the disbelievers. And she is likewise not allowed to imitate a man in his dress, his walk, or his speech; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the women who imitate men, and cursed the men who imitate women. And he said:
He who copies any people is one of them.من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
And he said:
Cut the beards short and let the beards grow; differ from the polytheists.قصوا الشوارب، وأعفوا اللحى؛خالفوا المشركين
He said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.جزوا الشوارب، وأرخوا اللحى؛ خالفوا المجوس
Sahih Muslim 260
Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
