The Meaning of the Hadith: "None of You Will Be Saved by His Deeds"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The last hadith that I did not explain is his saying:
and understand that none amongst you can attain salvation because of his deeds aloneواعلموا أنه لن يَنْجُوَ أحد منكم بعمله
Sahih Muslim 2816g
?

Answer:
As mentioned, this is the point: work is a cause, and Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) is the One who grants success. A person should not boast about his work or be proud of it; rather, he should work, strive, and ask his Lord for success and forgiveness, and he should not think that his work is what will save him. They said:
They said: “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Not even me. Unless Allah encompasses me with mercy and grace from Him.”ولا أنت يا رسول الله، قال: ولا أنا إلا أن يتغمدني الله برحمة منه وفضل
Sunan Ibn Majah 4201Sahih (Darussalam)
So, one relies on the mercy and pardon of Allah. Deeds are causes, acts of obedience are causes, and leaving sins are causes, while success is in the hand of Allah; He is the One who grants success, saves, and shows mercy .
