The Ruling on Buying Dogs, Cats, Foxes, and the Like

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Selling a hunting dog?

Answer:
It is not permissible to buy a hunting dog or any other dog.
Q: Well, does the sale of wild beasts, foxes, and cats fall under this?
A: They are not sold. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the sale of the sinawar (cat), so it is not sold. Thus, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the price of the sinawar and the dog.
Q: If one is in dire necessity to buy a hunting dog?
A: It is not permissible to buy it, but one may raise a small dog with his sheep until it becomes useful.
Q: There are shops that sell these, may Allah reward you?
A: Their practice is not a proof. A hadith was reported by al-Nasa'i:
except a hunting dogإلا كلب صيد
, but it is a weak hadith. In "the two Sahihs," there is a prohibition on selling dogs absolutely, and a prohibition on the price of dogs, stating that it is impure.
