The Ruling on Increasing or Decreasing Worldly Goods

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a servant is able to buy something for his home and reduce his worldly possessions, as was reported of some of the Companions that they did so, meaning: the good provision will be waiting for him in the Hereafter?

Answer:
The important thing is that a person should stay away from what occupies him from the Hereafter. However, if it does not occupy him, but rather he benefits people through it—whether by selling, buying, real estate, or otherwise—then he is benefiting people. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked:
what type of earning was best and replied, “A man’s work with his hand and every business transaction which is approved.”أي الكسب أطيب؟ قال: عمل الرجل بيده، وكل بيع مبرور
Mishkat al-Masabih 2783
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allahاحرص على ما ينفعك، واستعن بالله
Sahih Muslim 2664
, so if his work benefits—whether selling, buying, farming, selling livestock, selling other goods, or otherwise—he should do it as long as there is benefit and utility for the Muslims, and he hopes for the reward of Allah, then he is in great goodness. And the believer is in goodness in all his deeds if he intends by them the Face of Allah and the Hereafter.
